Description

Mt Ibuki, a holy site of Japanese mountain religion, historically attracted many monks and priests. As the local religious practice restricted farming and agricultural crops such as rice and soy, Soba buckwheat farming was adopted as a chief crop for over 1000 years. This place is known as the birthplace of Japanese soba, and is believed to be the area where soba was first planted before spreading throughout the rest of Japan.
