Description

In the woodcarving village of Kaminyu, a variety of craftsmen still work today making butsudan, the Buddhist household altar. In this workshop, you will try woodcarving with skilled butsudan craftsmen to learn the essence of Japanese craftsmanship. After the workshop you can enjoy a stroll through the village, visiting craftsmen's studios. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on the tour.
Carve your choice of either: strap or coaster.
Workshops without chisels such as decorating wooden animals or hair accessories are also available for small children.
*all carved works should be taken home with you afterward.

  • ・During the workshop, we use sets of chisels and knives. We take extra precautionary measures for your safety, however, we will not be liable for any injuries incurred so please consider purchasing your own travel insurance.
    ・Children under the age of 14 must participate with their guardians.
